Angora Goats
Text by Wendell Joost, photos by Sean Flynn
The first Angora goat that I got was Marley, a wether (neutered male) who is good natured but not that bright. I got him in September of '97 when driving past a house I noticed a sign outside that said, "Free Goat."
I needed a goat to eat the blackberries that were cascading down the hillside and threatening to envelop the house. I scooped up Marley (named after Bob Marley because of his dreadlocked Angora goat appearance) and installed him behind the house. He did such a good job (turning a quarter acre of blackberries into a field of bare stalks within a few months) that I got a second Angora (Katrina) in the spring.

Katrina and Elvis.
The names fell into what us computer geeks call a "naming convention" - rock stars of the '70s and '80s.
In the fall of '98 I had Katrina bred with a stud goat in order to get a kid. On April 22nd, I returned home from work to discover not one but two kids.

Me, Elvis and Janis.
Since she had a boy and a girl, I named them Elvis and Janis. They're both very cute and growing very quickly. These photos were taken by Sean on Tuesday evening when the kids were 5 days old.
